A whole train equals 50 trucks
The proposed benefit by CICAL is based primarily on the delivery of sugar by trainload over very large distances, reducing by 80% the emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere * but also the consumption of fossil fuels.
Otherwise, the use of railways instead semitrailers minimizes the presence of trucks on the road (reduced congestion on roads including risk of accidents).
At last, the use of sustainable modes of transport provides an opportunity for manufacturers to improve their image from consumers.
* comparative study of 1 January 2014 to 31 October 2014
Simulation via CICAL
Rail transport: 273 T of CO2
Road deliveries: 1 450 T of CO2
Silos power consumption (246 522 kWh over the period) : 13 T of CO2
TOTAL per relation : 1 736 T of CO2
Simulation by road
Direct road deliveries : 7 865 T of CO2
The CICAL service enabled sugar producers to save 6,129 tonnes of CO2 from January 1, 2014 to October 31, 2014.
This represents a reduction in CO2 emissions of nearly 80%.
